How to Turn Off Siri on IOS 5

Trying to turn off Siri has been a big hassle all morning. It’s been very hard to use my iPhone with Siri repeating every step in the background.

What do you do to disable Siri Voice?

Very simply, click on the bottom part of the home button three times and this should turn off the voice.

Xcode 4 Iphone Error : putpkt: write failed: Broken pipe.

If you get the error message ” putpkt: write failed: Broken pipe.” while compiling your iphone or ipad device, try doing this to resolve the issue.

a) quit Xcode (and the GDB it is running)
b) unplug device
c) delete app from device (hold icon until the ‘X’ appears)
d) turn off device
e) turn on device
f) plug in device (if itunes wants to sync, let it finish)
g) launch Xcode

It will clean your memory and give you a clean slate so Xcode can load your device with the latest build.

Skyfire Browser for the iPhone Does Not Work

The Skyfire app has great promise as an iPhone browser if it only worked. I downloaded it because I wanted to listen to a local radio station using a Flash Player which seems to be the only way to listen online using Safari. Well, after paying $2.99 I got the same old error message saying I needed the Flash plugin. I immediately requested a refund.

Below are the steps I took to request an Skyfire app refund:

Launch iTunes
Go to Purchase History
Report a problem
Fill out the form with your reason for the refund

Hopefully, they will alpha and beta test their software before releasing unfinished software again.

Most Popular iPhone Application Categories

I came across an interesting statistic doing research on the iPhone application category hierarchy.

Based on July 2009 figures from O’reilly research, Games by far was the leading application category with a 21% share of unique apps. Entertainment, Books, Utilities, and Education follow Games to round out the top 5 most popular categories. The biggest surprise was the huge popularity of the News category with a whopping 253% increase from 12 weeks prior.

Why is News so popular and what does this mean? Well, it probably means more and more users like to get their news from the iPhone reader, rather than usual sources like their favorite news websites, magazines or printed newspapers. This is probably because of overall convenience…news anytime, anywhere.

The fact is, every newspaper will have to provide its users a functional iPhone news reader app soon. I think they will eventually have to charge for their content as well.

Currently, I like the way the WSJ charges for their content. They mix free with premium content to entice users to ultimately subscribe to a monthly plan. To date, this seems to be working for the #1 newspaper in the U.S.
